Hematite has a Mohs hardness of 5.5–6.5 but contains iron, so it must never be soaked in water as it will rust and deteriorate. A very quick rinse and immediate thorough drying is the maximum water exposure it should receive. For safer cleansing, use sage smoke, selenite charging, moonlight bathing or sound vibrations. Earth burial also works well for this grounding stone. Store in a dry environment in a soft cloth away from moisture.
