Zircon is a nesosilicate mineral with the chemical formula ZrSiO₄. It crystallises in the tetragonal system and is found in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Mohs hardness: 6-7.5. The oldest known zircons come from the Jack Hills in Western Australia (4.4 billion years old). Also found in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Tanzania.
