Topaz has a Mohs hardness of 8 and can be safely cleaned with lukewarm water and gentle soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. For energetic cleansing, moonlight and selenite charging are preferred. Sage smoke and sound vibrations also work well. Avoid sudden temperature changes which can cause topaz to fracture along its cleavage plane. Treated topaz colours can fade in prolonged sunlight. Store in a soft pouch.
