Selenite is very soft (2 Mohs) and will dissolve in water — never submerge, rinse or get it wet. Selenite is one of the few crystals believed to be permanently self-cleansing, continually radiating purifying energy. If you wish to refresh it, moonlight bathing is the safest and most effective method. Sage smoke and sound vibrations also work. Handle with care as selenite scratches and chips very easily. Store in a dry, stable place away from moisture, humidity and bathrooms.
