Malachite is a soft crystal (3.5–4 Mohs) that contains copper and must never be placed in water — especially not water you might drink, as it can release toxic copper compounds. Cleanse with sage smoke, selenite charging, moonlight bathing or sound vibrations only. Avoid sunlight which can fade its colour, and keep it away from salt, acids and chemicals. Always wash your hands after handling raw malachite. Store in a soft pouch away from harder stones.
