Amethyst has a Mohs hardness of 7, making it safe for brief rinses under lukewarm running water. Dry with a soft cloth immediately afterwards. For energetic cleansing, place amethyst on a selenite plate for four to six hours, pass it through sage smoke, or use sound cleansing with a singing bowl or tuning fork. Moonlight is especially powerful for amethyst — leave it on a windowsill during the full moon overnight. Important: amethyst fades in prolonged direct sunlight, so never leave it on a sunny windowsill or in your car. Store in a soft pouch away from UV light.
