Agate is a hardy crystal with a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, making it safe to cleanse briefly under lukewarm running water. Pat dry with a soft cloth afterwards. For a deeper energetic cleanse, place your agate on a selenite charging plate for four to six hours or leave it in the light of a full moon overnight. Sage or palo santo smoke is also an excellent option — simply pass your stone through the smoke for 30–60 seconds while setting your intention. Avoid prolonged soaking, harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners. Store your agate wrapped in a soft cloth or in a lined box away from direct sunlight to prevent gradual colour fading.
